Andy Bridge (UK)

Andy graduated from the illustration course at Brighton Polytechnic in 1989 and worked from a studio at Great Western Studios in West London until 2004.

He now lives and works in France.

He paints onto wood or metal with household emulsion and print using stencils, often scratching into the surface of the paint, scraping away layers, removing the newness of the image and revealing traces of paint beneath.
He also works in three dimensions, producing boxed collages and pieces inspired by all kinds of ephemera. In book jacket design, he works with all the main publishers in the UK, Europe and the USA including Random House, Penguin, MacMillan, Harper Collins and Orion.

He illustrated the cover of the 2002 Man Booker Prize winning novel ‘Life of Pi’ by Yann Martel, published by Canongate. as well as the 2009 winner ‘Wolf Hall’ by Hilary Mantel, published by Harper Collins and most recently the 2012 Man Booker Prize winning novel ‘Bring Up The Bodies’.

Commissions have varied from work for a film set (Martha Meet Frank, Daniel and Lawrence), shop window displays in Japan for Anya Hindmarch, original artwork for the largest cruise ships in the world, MS Allure- and Oasis Of The Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean, to wine labels for Domaine Saint Rose in France.

His work has been bought by Peter Gabriel, Roger Taylor, Paul Smith and Ted Baker amongst others.
