ENQUIRE

James Holdsworth (UK)

James Holdsworth graduated from Chelsea Art School in the late 1970’s and became a dominant figure in the debate surrounding the reappraisal of art and punk. Moving to New York in the 1990’s, he continued to work as an artist, carrying out private and corporate commissions, including his work at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During a career spanning four decades, James Holdsworth’s works have gained an international reputation, featuring in shows and collections in Los Angeles, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Sao Paolo and London.

Artist Statement

When I paint I try to visually express my understanding of life in the 21st century. My work examines society’s many lusts and desires, with fortune and fame centre stage and our insecurities never far away. My aim is to create works that are a symphony of controlled chaos, using iconography, symbols and and the written word, to express a message about the fragility of our existence and our uncertain futures…which are merely held together with hope. “Lighten our darkness we beseach thee oh lord !”
