ENQUIRE

Sean Alexander (UK)

The King of kitchen vinyls, or fablon, as it was known at the peak of its popularity in the 1970’s, Sean has long been alone in working with this most inhospitable of mediums. Using just a scalpel and a steady hand to manoeuvre the vinyl, Sean recreates his delicate pen on paper line drawings, with an explosion of colour and texture, pin striping his pieces with forensic precision, to create a skeletal structure to which each panel of vinyl is attached. The result, thanks to the perennially convincing performance of vinyl, is an almost unintelligible blend of different surfaces, that leaves the eye and brain completely at odds with each other; the eye seeing one thing and the brain another.
