DAVID HOLLIER
Born Wolverhampton 1971, England. Bachelors degree in Visual Art from the University of Northumbria and Masters degree from London Guildhall University. Now permanent resident of USA. Live in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
“I have been experimenting with an image and word theme since 2009, and this is the first concise collection I have produced. The work has an American theme, running alongside an iconic theme, running alongside a Pseudo – Religious – Political theme, with a large serving of satire throughout. The words I select are always related to the image or vice versa, with the words either having been written by the subject of the portrait, or the image having been selected to relate to specific prose or lyrics. Some links are very clear, whilst others perhaps more abstract. It’s important to me that the words carry a message, and for that message to be positive and objective – whether it’s the words themselves, or the relationship between the words and the image – the message should be objective, telling it as it is, Gonzo style”
Hunter S Thompson sums it up best “Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish – a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow, to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.”
FINN STONE
Born London 1971, Lives and works in London.
“Everything is thrown away in our society today; I look at most things I see and can spot something iconic and classic hidden within them. We all endeavour to have great objects around us, to feel better energy, and creating a new monster full of joy and happiness, with a little twist of amorphic madness about it, does that for me. The old with the new, the joining of the past and the future – and all covered in clear lacquer. Today’s world. “
